Stories of Change

The People Behind the Numbers

Education & Youth
"I never thought university was possible for someone like me. The Foundation changed that."

— Ama's Journey

Ama's Journey

Ama grew up in a small village outside Kumasi where secondary school completion was rare for girls. When The Badu-Schandorf Foundation's Education & Youth program arrived in her community, she was among the first cohort of scholarship recipients.

Today Ama is completing her degree in Public Health at the University of Ghana, with plans to return to her community as a health educator. Her story is one of more than 3,200 young people whose educational paths we have helped shape.

Women's Empowerment
"We started with six women and a small grant. Now we employ thirty families."

— The Accra Cooperative

The Accra Cooperative

Six women in Accra's Nima neighborhood came together through the Foundation's Women's Empowerment program, each receiving a micro-grant and twelve weeks of business training.

Three years later, their textile cooperative employs thirty people and exports handwoven fabric to buyers in the United States and United Kingdom. The Foundation's initial investment of $4,200 has generated over $180,000 in community income.

Community Health
"Children used to miss school because of waterborne illness. That has almost stopped entirely."

— Clean Water in Tamale

Clean Water in Tamale

In partnership with local health authorities in Tamale, the Foundation funded the installation of three community water filtration stations serving over 2,400 residents. The project also trained twelve community health volunteers.

Within eighteen months, reported cases of waterborne illness in the target neighborhoods dropped by 71%. School attendance among children under twelve rose by 23% in the same period.

Agriculture
"We used to pray for rain and hope. Now we have tools, knowledge, and a market to sell to."

— Harvest Season in the North

Harvest Season in the North

The Foundation's Agriculture program partnered with 620 smallholder farmers in Ghana's Northern Region, introducing drought-resistant seed varieties, drip irrigation techniques, and cooperative market access.

Average household farm income among participants increased by 38% in the first full growing season. Twelve farming cooperatives now sell directly to regional buyers, bypassing exploitative middlemen.
